Ambulance chase stopped before reaching Nashville

NASHVILLE, GA (WALB) - A man stole an ambulance in Lakeland Sunday, and was headed toward Nashville, but was stopped short when a Georgia State Trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle between Ray City and Nashville.
The criminal was severely injured in the wreck when the ambulance rolled over and broke in two, and was air-lifted to a hospital in Tallahassee.

Just three weeks ago, two people were killed and their sibling severely injured when Tift County deputies chased a fleeing felony suspect into Nashville. That tragedy caused an out-cry in Nashville and Tifton.

The trooper said he made the decision to run the ambulance off the road to prevent the chase from getting to Nashville. He said it was traveling “at a high rate  of speed.”

Warrants are being taken for the man whom authorities refused to identify. He will be brought to Georgia and put in the Berrien County jail.
