GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A female pedestrian is dead after being hit by both an ambulance, and a second car which police said subsequently fled the scene.

Grand Rapids police said the 45-year-old woman was struck while crossing 28th Street near Jefferson Ave. SE about 2 a.m. on Sunday, June 23. She died on the scene.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately released, was hit first by a Life Ambulance that was westbound on 28th Street en route to a non-emergency call, police said.

The second car, a 1994 yellow Mitsubishi, was headed eastbound when it struck the woman. The male driver of that car fled east, said police, who are searching for the vehicle that has a Michigan license plate number CNP7406.

The accident closed 28th Street for several hours while police investigated.
