SAN FRANCISCO, CA – U.K. paramedic Mark Glencourse, EMS podcaster Chris Montera, and paramedic film maker Ted Setla have united to create a reality video series that looks at differences and similarities in emergency medical services around the world.
http://ChroniclesofEMS.com is a reality series that takes a look at how social media and the emergency medical services (EMS) community are coming together to provide better patient care. In today’s connected world, social media channels like blogs, podcasts and Twitter provide realtime communication, sharing of best practices and stories of patient care successes and failures.
This new reality series, Chronicles of EMS, is being created as edutainment, or educational entertainment in an effort to inspire dialogue, raise awareness and generate change of from within the EMS industry.
The project was developed by Director, Producer, and Thaddeus Setla, well know for his acclaimed Level Zero EMS documentary, and paramedic Chief Chris Montera, renowned host of the EMS Garage podcast. Chronicles of EMS was conceived during a podcast panel discussion between San Francisco paramedic Justin Shores and Mark Glencorse, a paramedic from the United Kingdom.<
These two paramedics, despite their geographical separation, read each other’s blog sites as a way of sharing their stories and getting feedback from readers. In one instance, Mark read a blog article regarding the care of a specific cardiac condition and within 48 hours of reading that article, Mark had a patient with the same heart condition. That shared knowledge from a social media resource affected his course of treatment for that patient. Social media, through blogging, saved that patient’s life.
Mark Glencorse arrives in San Francisco November 8, 2009 and will spend eight days riding along with blogging pal Justin Shores on ambulances in the San Francisco Fire Department. The cameras will be rolling as they discuss the differences between their EMS systems, as well as what they have in common. This initial installment of the reality series will serve as the pilot episode for Chronicles of EMS.
