AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — Medical director for Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services is stepping down¬†Nov. 7.
Dr. Ed Racht is resigning from the 13-year position and plans to work for a hospital group in Atlanta, Ga.
Racht earns about $210,000 a year and was the associate chief of emergency medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond before coming to Austin.¬†He also¬†worked part-time with the city’s ambulance service.
As director, Racht oversees 2,300 employees who provide prehospital care under his license. The office of the medical director determines who practices prehospital medicine in Travis County.
EMS¬†spokesman Warren Hassinger said Racht’s decision to leave the Austin area was based partly on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
A process for the selection for a new medical director has not yet begun.
