In less than 24 hours I have witnessed two medical response calls by the Sheboygan Fire Department.
In both cases, a city ambulance and a city fire truck were sent.
Can anyone please explain why both are needed?
It would seem to me that the ambulance contains fully trained and paid fire department staff, the ambulance itself should offer all available medical equipment.
Why then do we need to waste the time, personnel, fuel and resources of a fire truck to all medical calls?

Because ambulances aren’t always held to a 8 minute 59 second response standard… Most Fire departments are held to a 6 minute or less standard where, depending on where you are, it could take up to 10 minutes or more to get a wagon… Also, some Fire Departments, with the long ambulance response time have Paramedics on the trucks to initiate care…
